Flawless Moulton Harrox go top with five-star win

Unstoppable Moulton Harrox moved top of the ChromaSport Peterborough League Premier Division table on Saturday as they beat Stanground Sports 5-1 at Broad Lane to make it seven wins from as many matches.

Ben Allen continued his fine start to the season with a great goal within the first five minutes, before Ian Bradbury doubled the Moulton lead.

Hosts Harrox then took their foot off the gas and produced probably their worst 20 minutes of the season, which allowed Stanground to get a goal back and give Dave Panton’s side a shock.

However, Moulton showed great character and hit back – and a mix-up in the Stanground defence allowed skipper Billy King to lob the keeper superbly from 25 yards just before half time to make it 3-1.

After the break it was one-way traffic as Harrox dominated, with Adam Abell and sub Martin Sandall rounding off the win.

Boss Panton said: “We didn’t play well – but playing poorly, having six attempts cleared off the line and being caught offside eight times in one half shows how much we dominated.

“Well done to Stanground. Without their committed defence, I feel the scoreline would have been more.

“Workrate was not an issue for us, but these random Saturdays off – like we had last weekend – are more of a hindrance than a blessing at the moment.

“We should have a good run of fixtures now – including a tough Lincs Cup draw away to a very respected Lincoln team.”

Harrox host fourth-placed Thorney next on Saturday (2pm).

Harrox: Kenealy, Groves, Cardell, Coddington, Patterson, King, Placis (Maltby), Townsend (Sandall), Allen (Wheeler), Abell, Bradbury.
