Spalding United under-13s recorded a good battling 5-0 win at Deeping Blue under-13s on Sunday as they made their debut in Division Two of the Peterborough District and Junior Alliance League following last season’s promotion.
The Tulips took the lead on four minutes when Alfie Anderson headed home a rebound from Ryan Thomas’ shot.
It was 2-0 on 13 minutes when Elliot Goodley scored with his left foot from 12 yards out in a crowded penalty area.
Playing with real passion and flair – as well as great discipline – Spalding almost made it three when Harvey Wirkowski thundered an effort off the bar.
There was still time for the young Tulips to make it 3-0 before the break, as Thomas slotted home following Anderson’s pass.
To their credit, Spalding kept battling in midfield after the break with Tom McKenna and Dylan Evans bossing the game.
It was from a McKenna through ball that Thomas made it 4-0 from a one-on-one, before keeper Callum Haynes was called into action as he punched out a dangerous floated free kick to ensure a clean sheet.
The scoring was complete when Toby Woolsey and Daniel Plant combined well for Anderson to score Spalding’s fifth.
The Tulips travel to fellow Division Two side Blackstones on Sunday.
