Five-star Moulton Harrox roar back against Sherpa to keep county bid alive

Paul Crowson refused to get too carried away with Moulton Harrox’s hopes of winning the Lincs Junior Cup despite Saturday’s fine 5-2 victory at Sherpa.

ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division leaders Harrox maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-fought victory in Scunthorpe as they had to come from behind on two different occasions.

After dominating the early exchanges, Moulton fell behind to a scrambled goal from a corner.

The red-hot Marcus Parry levelled before the break, but Sherpa were back ahead in the second half following some lapse Harrox defending.

At that point the away bench was worried that their county crusade was coming to an end for another season – but Joe Townsend hit back with a second leveller.

Boss Nigel Steadman then threw on an extra attacker in Ian Bradbury, a move which paid dividends as he, Townsend and Parry – the latter grabbing is tenth goal in nine games – all notched to seal a 5-2 success.

Number two Crowson admits that his side were value for the win, but feels they are by no means favourites to win the competition.

“It was a very interesting game,” said the experienced assistant boss. “In the end, we deserved to win and score five.

“But we made it hard for ourselves, having to come from behind twice. We were very dominant early on, but they scored from what must have been their only corner of the half.

“We levelled, but when we conceded a goal by dwelling on the ball – just like last year – we began to worry that it was going to be one of those days.

“We didn’t want to go out to another late goal, so we went attacking late on and it paid off.

“Are we favourites to win the cup? I couldn’t say that. There are still some strong sides involved, especially from the north of the county. If you’re drawn away, you never know what is going to happen.

“We’ll just take each round as it comes.”

Harrox have no game this weekend, but Dan Woods is on PDFL Rep team duty in the Isle of Man.

Harrox: Wilding, Groves, Relf, Coddington, Patterson, McGuire, King, L Steadman, Woods, Townsend, Parry. Subs used: Bradbury, Finnigan. Not used: Cawthorne, Johnson, N Steadman.
