Five-star Moulton Harrox extend their lead to six points as pair bag braces

Doubles from Joe Townsend and Marcus Parry fired Moulton Harrox to an emphatic 5-1 victory at Deeping Rangers Reserves on Saturday.

Dan Woods also netted a fine free-kick for table-topping Moulton at The Haydon Whitham Stadium as they extended their lead at the top of ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division to six points.

Harrox now turn their attention to a Lincs Junior Cup clash at Scunthorpe-based Sherpa on Saturday (2pm).

Assistant boss Paul Crowson said: “We huffed and we puffed in that first half, but Deeping set their stall out to play 4-5-1 and be hard to beat.

“Thankfully, Marcus wriggled through a few challenges to get the first goal before half time – and they had to come out and play after that.

“1-0 became 3-0 pretty quickly after the break and then it was much easier for us. They got a consolation late on, but it didn’t really matter.

“We played some very nice football and it was a pleasing win.

“Obviously we’re delighted to be six points clear, but we’ve only played nine games.

“I’ve been there, seen that and got the t-shirt – so we won’t be getting carried away.

“Starting well is important, but there’s plenty of games still to play. We move onto the Lincs Cup now and a long trek to Scunthorpe. Sherpa are something of an unknown entity, but we’ll go there to win.”

Harrox: Wilding, Groves, Watkin, McGuire, Coddington, King, Steadman, Cawthorne, Woods, Parry, Townsend. Subs used: Finnigan, Ford, Relf.
