Five-star Holbeach United end winless run in style as Hussey gets ‘proud uncle’ moment

After going a month without a win, Holbeach United ended their barren run with an emphatic 5-0 victory at Kirby Muxloe on Saturday.

The Tigers kept up their hopes of finishing fourth in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division with a five-star showing at Ratby Lane as Billy Smith, Jonny Lockie (2), Callum Madigan and youngster Joe Hussey all found the net.

Having not won in any competition since March 13, the Tigers took advantage of a bizarre tactical change from their struggling hosts at half-time by plundering four goals after the break.

Boss Danny Hussey felt his side could have scored even more on the day.

He said: “It was a good performance in a typical end of season game.

“The pitch was dreadful, but both teams wanted to play football.

“It was a good game in the first half and we went in 1-0 up, but they made a change at half-time and went man for man against us at the back.

“It was a massive mistake, as Jonny Lockie absolutely murdered them with his pace and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that we could have scored eight or nine goals on the day.

“It was obviously nice to us to break that run of games without a win and I had a proud uncle moment with Joe Hussey coming off the bench to get a goal on his debut.

“Overall, it was a good result and performance from the boys.”

Tigers: Drury, Harker, Jackson, Madigan, Clay, Avis, Lockie, Tinkler, Tricks, Davies, B Smith. Sub used: J Hussey.
