First league loss for Holbeach United despite late goal flurry at Deeping Rangers

DEEPING RANGERS 4
HOLBEACH UNITED 3

A remarkable late rally couldn’t stop Holbeach United from losing 4-3 at Deeping Rangers on Tuesday night.

Holbeach trailed the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division clash 4-0 with 89 minutes on the clock after goals from Charlie Ward (39), Dan Schiavi (54), Joe Braithwaite (OG 75) and Scott Mooney (82).

Determined not to give up their unbeaten league record without a fight, Jordan Keeble (89), Charley Sanders (90) and Spencer Tinkler (90+4) all netted in the closing stages – but it wasn’t enough.

Seb Hayes’ side are now fourth in the table, four points behind leaders Leicester Nirvana.

Sanders and Mitch Griffiths both went close in the first half before Ward’s deflected header gave the hosts a half-time lead.

Schiavi’s brilliant 25-yard free-kick doubled the Deeping lead, then Braithwaite headed a cross from the same player into his own net.

Mooney’s diving header looked to have wrapped up the points for Deeping, but sub Keeble reduced the arrears with a deflected drive and Sanders rifled home a second.

There was still time for ex-Deeping man Tinkler to head a third for Holbeach bang on the final whistle, but the damage had already been done.

Tigers: Drury, Tinkler, Jackson, Braithwaite, Warfield, Smith (Dougill), Griffiths, Zuerner (Keeble), Leckie, Bird, Sanders. Not used: Davies, Harker.

Attendance: 155.
