Fire service declare ‘major incident’ after hottest day on record

A ’major incident’ has been declared by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue following the hottest day Lincolnshire has ever seen.

The fire service is urging people to only ring 909 if its absolutely necessary this evening as they’re currently at a number of incidences.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “Along with a number of other fire services, we have declared a major incident for Lincolnshire this evening.

“We have had an incredibly busy day – both our control room and our crews – responding to incidents in Lincolnshire and supporting other services.

“At 6pm we still had 25 appliances at incidents and 3 supporting neighbouring counties. We are still receiving very high number of 999 calls. Please only call 999 in a genuine emergency or where there is an immediate risk to life.”

Earlier today the hottest temperature in the Uk ever recorded was registered in Lincolnshire at Coningsby, a reading of 40.3C.

The Met Office say Holbeach reached 39C. Before today the previous highest temperature recorded there was 35.9C in 2019.
