Fine season for croquet club

The croquet season started with Pinchbeck hosting the Lincolnshire opener and Tim Barzycki and Ken Knock, from Pinchbeck, winning.

Mike Bowser, Knock and Adrian Kirby played in the Association Croquet (AC) Anderson Shield final carried over from last year and beat a team from Wrest Park.

Knock also won the one-ball final at Nottingham.

Barzycki and Derek Brocklesby attended the Golf Croquet (GC) all England handicapped regional final with Brocklesby finishing second.

In the respective leagues, the AC team won the northern area league of the East Anglian Federation with wins against Norwich and Downham and a defeat at Peterborough, whilst in the GC handicapped league, Pinchbeck, entering two teams for the first time, finished third and fourth.

The home season ended with an internal doubles (GC) event, where 12 participants played a round robin of five games each.

With two teams finishing with four wins each, Knock and John Wright were declared the winners due to their better points difference of 34-21 against Terry Sparks and Sally Farrow.

Knock and Wright will go on to represent Pinchbeck in the Lincolnshire opener next year.

Croquet England have awarded Bowser with a diploma for services to croquet.
