Final unbeaten record smashed by Long Sutton C

They’ve had a tough start to the Spalding and District Snooker League Division Three season – but Long Sutton C smashed the last remaining unblemished record last week.

Having won their opening nine games of the campaign, Gosberton D were hot favourites to make it a perfect ten against strugglers Sutton.

However, wins for Dan Mayfield (O28), Susan Lefley (R14) and, crucially, David Lefley (scr) at the death fired Sutton C to a 4-2 triumph.

Despite losing their flawless return, Gosberton are top of the tree in Division Three, with Whittlesey C a point off the pace.

Third-placed Bourne SC missed the chance to close the gap on the leaders as they were edged out 4-2 at promotion rivals Consti D. John Cooper (R14) clinched the win for Consti in the penultimate frame.

Donington B were the big winners at this level as they drubbed Consti A 6-0.

Pete Burrell (O14), Fred Goodacre (R21), Phil Burrell (scr), Dave Bannister (scr) and Mick Clark (R7) all won to facilitate the whitewash.

Up in the top flight, leaders Services A slipped to their second defeat of the campaign as Donington A handed them a 5-1 reverse.

Jean Thompson (R28), Nigel Brasier (O7), Sam Major (O14) and Tony Scully (scr) all picked up frame wins to sink the table-toppers.

Second-placed Donington C are now just eight points behind the Spalding side after their 4-2 victory at Pyramid A.

Boundary B are up to fifth in the standings after they shaded a tight tussle with Tulips A 4-2. A 22 clearance from Brian Addy (R7) and Steve Oakes’ (O21) 24 break helped the Deeping team on their way.

Also on the up are Pyramid B, who disposed of Holbeach C 5-1. A 27 clearance from Jason Green (O56) and Alfonso Palumbo’s (O42) 24 break were the highlights for the Bourne boys.

Meanwhile, Boundary A are now level on points with Division Two leaders Bourne SC A after cruising to a 6-0 success against Services B.

Big victories from Pete King (scr), Andy Mowforth (scr), Jim McGhee (scr) and Stewart Lilley (R7) fired them to their seventh win from ten outings.

Also looking strong in third are Consti B. They edged out Gosberton A 4-2 in a game that saw both Mick Johnson (O35) and Carl Wand (scr) pocket breaks of 24.

Another player helping himself to a 24 break was Long Sutton D’s John Dawson (O35).

He made the score in the opening frame of the game as his side saw off Gosberton B 4-2.

Another side to win well last week were Holbeach B, who moved to within four points of the summit with a 5-1 triumph at Services C.

Black ball wins from Phil Coaten (O7) and Zac Rowlett (O28) were pivotal for the fifth-played promotion hopefuls.

Towards the foot, Consti I picked up a welcome 5-1 return against Pyramid C – who could have gone top with a big win.

Stewart Wells (R21), John Bellerby (scr), David Twelves (R14) and Richard Geddes (R14) were all on winning for Consti, who edge away from the drop zone.
