Film casting out the net for help

A film being shot in South Holland and directed by two people from the area is appealing for funding to get it finished.

Mark Kuczewski and Natalie Pailing, who grew up in Long Sutton and Pinchbeck respectively, have already shot 75 per cent of the film Deadcast.

It tells the story of two podcasters who take their show on the road, investigating individuals who claim to have experienced the supernatural.

As they delve deeper into chilling encounters and eerie tales, they begin to question if their search for the unknown might lead them to something far more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.

The pair are part of Dark Shepherd Films and met after being involved in a film together shot in Long Sutton in 2012.

“We have all made short films before of our own and worked together in the past, but this is the first time we’re coming together and making a feature,” said Natalie who has a degree from Raindance Film School in directing and screenwriting as well as being a trained actor. “Doing our first film without funding or a big production has been challenging and a lot of work but honestly it’s been a genuine dream.

“We’ve been able to work with people that we’ve met over the years on smaller projects and everyone involved has just come to set with a real collaborative sense of what they can bring to the film, which I’m not sure we would have got on a bigger production.

“We’ve been really lucky with the amount of support the local community has given us.

“Many businesses, friends, and family, have let us film in their spaces and have been so flexible with their time.

“Holbeach United Community Sports Academy, Sutton St Edmund Village Hall, The Cley Hall Hotel, The Hat and Feathers in Sutton St James, JE Garner in Sutton St James and Anglia Motel were all generous enough to let us film.

“We’ve got a great cast of seasoned actors, including Anne Hegerty (best known as the Governess in The Chase). who’s been so lovely to work with.

Mark has masters degree from the London Film School.

“With the directing team hailing from Lincolnshire, we’re excited to showcase the unique, cinematic landscape of the area,” said a Dark Shepherd Films spokesman. “The flat, expansive terrain will serve as the perfect backdrop, emphasising the feelings of isolation and mystery that are central to the story.

“Your support will help us elevate the film to its full potential, and every donation brings us closer to creating something truly special—we’d be honoured to have you be part of it..”
