Fewer flats proposed in change of use application for Spalding pub

Vine pub, SpaldingThe proposed number of flats which a Spalding pub could be converted into has been reduced.

A resubmitted planning application for The Vine in Commercial Road requests permission for a change of use to four flats, not five.

Spalding and District Civic Society, which commented on the original application that five was too many for the size of building, has welcomed the change, but backs a neighbour’s suggestion of two.
Society planning officer John Charlesworth said: “The reduction to four flats seems to have removed the most objectionable features of the earlier proposals – though the amenity space, we feel, is inadequate for four households.”

The application has been submitted to South Holland District Council by RS Properties.
The Vine landlady and leaseholder Sue Millar said the pub remains open Wednesday to Monday.
