Festival of theatre, music and fireworks

Spalding can look forward to a magical weekend of outdoor performances this weekend as the Burntwater Festival comes to town.

Transported, the creative people and places programme in Boston and South Holland is welcoming award-winning theatre company Tangled Feet to the town for the Burntwater Festival – a weekend of events inspired by the town’s history and heritage.

Over the course of the weekend the festival will unstitch and re-sew Spalding’s famous history of trade, shipping, forging and flowers.

Mixing physical theatre, music, fire, pyrotechnics and dance with the landscape of South Holland and the River Welland, Tangled Feet will dig into the town’s past to explore its present for audiences to enjoy.

Transported programme director Nick Jones said: “Being able to bring Tangled Feet to the Transported programme has been a really exciting privilege.

“They have created what promises to be a remarkable event that will stick in the mind of Spalding residents for years to come.

“It is a truly original and dynamic response to the area and we hope will inspire people to want to do more and bigger in the future.”

On Saturday, six characters will begin to appear around Spalding, starting at Springfields Festival Gardens before moving through The Springfields Outlet Shopping Centre.

From here they will embark on the water taxi they discover before trading their wares in the market place and make metal bend at the forge.

In the evening, from Chain Bridge Forge and Twin Bridges, audiences will watch as performers roam on stilts, paddle board down the river, juggle fire, spin wheels on water, make things grow and make the town glow.

On Sunday, Tangled Feet will be found at Ayscoughfee Hall, celebrating the memories of Spalding, its people, its past and its most recent arrivals.

As memories are floated on the memorial canal, overlooked by the hall’s beautiful gardens, new arrivals will float among the voices of the past.

Bring a picnic and your dancing shoes to take part and celebrate with live music, May Pole dancing and theatre performances.
