Moulton Mill, the tallest windmill in the country, has recently celebrated ten years as a tourist attraction.
To mark the occasion and all the hard work which has gone in over the years to restore the mill to its working glory, an open day was held to give visitors the chance to look around one of the area’s “hidden gems”.
Standing at 100ft to the top of its cap, Moulton Mill is 20ft taller than its nearest rival – Sutton Mill in Norfolk – and has been a part of the village’s skyscape since 1822.
The sails were removed in 1894 after gale damage, and serious milling ceased many years ago with the mill being used mainly as storage from the mid 1970s.
But after a huge effort – raising more than £1.4million – by the Friends of Moulton Mill, the mill is back in “working order” and attracts around 20,000 visitors a year.
As well as giving people the chance to look around the mill, there are also a variety of events throughout the year to bring the history of milling to life.
On May 27, there is the chance to be a “Miller for the Day”.
You will learn how to set up, operate and close down the Mill and in so doing will become familiar with parts of the mill not normally open to visitors.

The mill is usually open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holidays between 10am and 4pm.
Last tour goes at 3pm.
