Father and son taking over at Holbeach hardware store

VNG110614-15smallFather and son team Steve and Matt Tonks are delighted to be keeping a family feel to a favourite store in Holbeach.

With Andrew Hawkins retiring from Hawkins Hardware after 45 years at the helm, Andrew commented: “I’m over the moon that I’ve found a nice family to take the business over.”

The shop has been renamed Tonwood Home Hardware, combining part of the Tonks name with Wood, the maiden name of Steve’s wife Liz, who is also joining the business.

Both Steve and Matt have experience in the hardware and garden centre industry and aim to complement their skills with the strong, local profile of the business.

Steve said: “We want to keep the heritage of being a family run, independent shop so we can quickly respond and adapt to customer’s requirements to help keep their shopping local.”

Matt added: “We want to bring the business forward with a new customer car park and make better use of the retail space so that we provide customers with a greater choice and price range of goods.

“We’ll increase our offering of domestic appliances, home, garden and DIY products, yet still retain the great products Hawkins are known for locally.”

Steve was keen to remain Home Hardware members to ensure that customers continue to receive all the benefits of the combined buying power of over 440 independent stores.

It also gives customers access to more than 18,000 stocked products spanning many brands and ranges, so they can always expect a variety of quality products in store, which are offered at competitive prices.

Steve, Matt and the existing friendly team are encouraging customers to take a fresh look at the store during a special re-launch event from today until Saturday and enjoy exclusive limited stock deals on a first come, first served basis during the event.

And don’t worry if you take advantage and buy too much, the team will happily offer free local delivery to get your bargains home!

Steve and Matt are extending their thanks to the local community, by offering a free raffle for all customers making a purchase, so pop in for your chance to win a large “outback” four-burner gas barbecue.
