Family members step up to the plate at Daniel’s memorial event

Gedney Hill Golf Club’s Daniel Markillie Memorial Competition raised a staggering £3,511 for local charities.

In a nice twist, two of members of Daniel’s family won the top individual prizes on offer at the event too.

The overall winner was Alex Markillie (Daniel’s brother), while the winner of the ladies’ competition was Janet Davis (Daniel’s grandmother).

  • Results: Men’s section: Clarke Steel Trophy – 1st Mick Page 64 nett; 2nd Craig Johnson 65; 3rd F Khan 66.
  • Seniors’ Section: Result – Gedney Hill 6 RAF Marham 0 (John Venters & Mark Humphries won 7&6; Bill Smith & Paul Wood won 2&1; Doug Aitken & Pete Evans won 1up; Tom Penning & Bill Sharpe won 5&4; Wally Lawes & Don Hinshelwood won 5& 3; Raffaele Rugosa & Noel Delaney won 4&3).
  •  Rabbits’ section: Result – Hovenden 3.5 Gedney Hill 5.5 (Chris Bennett & Roy Bennett halved; Greg Walsh & Mo Parling won 2up; Graham East & Gary Moore won 1up; Steve Coe & Chris Blakey lost 5&4; Neil Sargeant & Pete Orbine lost 4&3; Claude Augustus and Andy Brereton won 2&1; Nicky Weller & Tom Penning won 5&4; Dave Roberts & Pat Moeller lost 6&5; Marilyn Sayer & Stuart Bett won 5&4).
  • Ladies’ section results: Mark Pools Rose Bowl – 1st Chris Bennett 33pts (ocb); 2nd Jayne Cowles 33; 3rd Lynn Exley 32.
