Fab four seal super scramble success at Spalding Golf Club

Jim Dobson, David Halfteck, Lizzie Cooke and Jean Wilkinson won the Florida Scramble event at Spalding Golf Club on Thursday.

In what was the first social match at home for the senior section this season, they took on the ladies’ section at the Surfleet course.

Some 17 mixed teams of four took part in the event, which kept everyone engaged and enthusiastic amid rainy conditions.

Ladies’ captain Theresa Starbuck said: “Thanks to everyone for taking part and persevering though the rain showers.”

Results: 1st Jim Dobson, David Halfteck, Lizzie Cooke & Jean Wilkinson with a net team score of 67.7; 2nd Peter Gooderson, John Beba, Deborah Ellis & Sue Matthews 68.1; 3rd Neil Wilkinson, Ray Harrison, Jennifer Pipe & Eileen Bridge with 69.0.

  • David Sanderson was the winner of Spalding Golf Club’s Buckingham Cup – the first cup competition of the year at the Surfleet course.

His core of 43 points saw enough to push James Quinton (40pts) into second.

Results: Buckingham Cup – 1st David Sanderson (19) 43pts; 2nd James Quinton (17) 40pts; 3rd Paul Emmington (8) 38pts; 4th Mark Jones (6) 38pts; 5th Arron Cooke (18) 38pts.
