Former England international Stuart Pearce was a massive hit at Spalding United’s latest sport celebrity dinner.
The ex-Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United defender, capped 78 times by England, answered questions for more than an hour at Spalding’s South Holland Centre on Thursday.
Some 250 guests packed onto 25 tables at the bash, which also boasted a three-course dinner, the sale of sporting memorabilia and a raffle.
Spalding United’s Malcolm Gray, who played a major role in organising the dinner, admitted that Pearce – who also lists Manchester City and West Ham United among his former clubs – was the best guest he can ever remember booking.
“It was a super night,” said Gray. “I’ve been involved with a lot of these nights over the years, but I can honestly say this was the best one yet.
“We had a full house of 250 people and I’m pleased to say the club benefited a great deal.
“Any money raised will go to maintaining the new community status of Spalding United.”
Gray also confirmed that Spalding United are hoping to arrange another sport celebrity dinner in 2016, having also lured ex-Liverpool defender Neil “Razor” Ruddock to South Holland last year.
