Former Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright is the latest top name to headline Spalding United’s annual Sports Celebrity Dinner.
Prolific striker Wright, who scored a total of 185 goals in 288 games for the Gunners, also played for Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, Celtic and Burnley in a glittering career.
He also notched nine times in 33 England caps, with his last apperance being a 2-0 friendly win over Czech Republic back in 1998.
Wright follows in the footsteps of former England team-mates Neil Ruddock and Stuart Pearce in headlining the Tulips’ event, which will take place on Thursday, September 22.
Bookings are now being taken for the Springfields Events and Conference Centre event, with tables of ten being sold at £650.
Tickets are allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis – with organiser Malcolm Gray having already taken a deluge of bookings.
There will be a change to the format this year, with Wright to be interviewed on stage for around an hour.
Gray is pleased that Spalding are giving the town the chance to come face-to-face with one of the icons of the English game and is backing the night to be another success.
He said: “We’re really looking forward to the event.
“To allow the people of Spalding to meet Ian Wright and see him interviewed is a real boost for the area.
“It’s proving popular already. Since we revealed that Ian was coming to Spalding we’ve had 11 different bookings.
“We’ve had to change the venue to accommodate more tables at what I consider to be a reasonable rate – but I must stress that tickets are first come, first served.
“Hopefully the change in format will keep things fresh. To have Ian interviewed should provide great entertainment.
“It’ll be hot on the heels of Euro 2016, so hopefully he’ll have plenty to say about it.”
The evening will include a three-course dinner and there will be an auction of sporting memorabilia, a raffle and a fully-licensed bar.
Dress code is lounge suit or smart casual (not black tie), with jeans strictly not allowed.
