Evacuations over gas leak

Homes in Gedney had to be evacuated after a car was involved in a collision with a gas main in the centre of the village last week.

The incident occurred at 8.30pm on Friday, May 25 on Main Road in the village.

A blue Renault Megane collided and disrupted the gas main.

The car was also in collision with a hedge and a bench on the roadside.

The hitting of the main caused a gas leak that led to worries over villagers’ safety.

As a precaution a number of properties were evacuated and residents were not allowed into their properties until the leak was made safe.

The driver of the car is understood to have fled the scene.

A police investigation remains ongoing as Lincolnshire Police look to identify the driver.

A police spokesperson said: “A vehicle collided with a hedge, a gas main and roadside furniture in Gedney, on Friday.

“Lincolnshire Police were called to Main Road at 8.26pm.

“Houses close to the incident were evacuated due to a gas leak caused by the collision, which involved a blue Renault Megane.

“Our enquiries are continuing to trace the driver.”

Anyone who saw the vehicle before the collision or provide any information should call Lincolnshire Police on 101.
