Emphatic win for Pyradon in Donington summer shield

A team consisting of players from the Spalding and District Snooker League walked away winners of the annual Donington Summer Shield.

The Pyradon team, consisting of James Sharpe, Jason Green, Neil Reynolds, Mark Woodberry and Sean Swinburn, beat a team from Peterborough Snooker Club in the final on Friday night.

Peterborough started well with Steve Singh taking the first frame from Swinburn, who was standing in for team regular Spencer Dawkins.

However, it was downhill for them from then on, as Pyradon took the next four in a convincing victory.

Reynolds beat Steve Martin by ten points in a fairly close game, before Sharpe edged out Gavin Cork 64-48.

The final two frames saw Green win easily, beating Gary Norman 62-11 and Woodberry hammer Darren Bampkin 85-17, knocking in a 85 break on his way to the win.

The highest break throughout the tournament was a 68 by Matt Prentice, of Broadway Club, Peterborough.

Jean Thompson, who organises the competition with husband Jim, said: “Thanks to everyone who took part and those who come back year after year – that’s what keeps the competition going.

“Nice to see new teams entering and a great final.”
