Election set to be called for seats previously held by Angela Newton

An election to replace the two council roles left by the passing of Angela Newton is set to take place on Thursday December 8.

New representatives need to be elected of the Spalding Monkshouse ward on South Holland District Council and the Spalding West division on Lincolnshire County Council.

It follows the death of Independent councillor Angela Newton in August who had been on the district council for nearly 50-years.

South Holland District Council says it has received a formal request for an election by two South Holland electors triggering the Notice of Election.

Candidates are able to submit nomination papers to stand in either election at the Council’s Priory Road offices in Spalding, between 10am and 4pm on any weekday from today (Friday November 4) until Friday November 11 by making a prior appointment with our elections team on 01775 764837.

Should two or more nominations be received for either seat, an election for that position will then be held on Thursday December 8, 2022, with residents able to cast their votes on the day between the hours of 7am and 10pm.

Residents will have until midnight on Tuesday November 22 to register to vote in the election, with applications, amendments or cancellations for postal votes and amendment or cancellation of proxy votes needed by Wednesday November 23.

New applications for proxy votes will need to be made by Wednesday November 30.

Information on the election can be found at www.sholland.gov.uk/NoticesOfElection2022. To register to vote visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
