A comprehensive victory was not enough to move Spalding out of the bottom two of the Lincolnshire Board Premier League on Saturday.
Despite bowling out Bourne for just 79 on their way to a seven-wicket away win, Spalding remain a point adrift of safety after all three bottom teams pulled off victories.
Ollie Dring called correctly to win the toss and his decision to field proved the right one as his bowlers tore into the home batting with Walter Kinlock taking a remarkable 8-19 from his 6.5 overs, including two maidens and clean bowling five batsmen. Nilantha Atapattu chipped in with 2-26 as Bourne slumped from 34-1 to 49-6 on their way to 79 all out in the 24th over.
The visitors’ response saw Jon Manton fall to the first ball of the innings but his opening partner Divyeash Vaseeharan stuck around to hit an unbeaten 36 with Barnaby Dring (15) and his captain (11no) seeing them to a victorious 80/3 inside 13 overs.
It leaves Spalding needing to win both their final matches to raise hopes of escaping the drop, with two of their rivals due to play each other and one of them guaranteed crucial survival points.
Spalding welcome Sleaford this Saturday and conclude their season with a trip to Burghley Park the following week.
Spalding Seconds were also celebrating victory, although their second win of the South Lincs Border League Division Two campaign came in the easiest of fashion.
Scheduled opponents Grantham Thirds scratched, handing Spalding a walkover.
