Earthquake felt across South Holland

An earthquake shook parts of South Holland late on Wednesday night.

People from across the district including Spalding, Holbeach, Pinchbeck, Whaplode Drove and Cowbit reported feeling the effects of the tremor.

The British Geological Survey reported the earthquake as happening at 10.25pm and measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale. Data showed that it was 8km underground in the locality of Oakham in Rutland.

The most recent major earthquake to be felt in this area was in 2008 when one with a magnitude of 5.2 had an epicentre near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire.
