E team pick up cup derby honours

There was a shock in the Consti derby in the Spalding League’s Division 1 Supreme Cup with the E team coming out on top against their A team.
A strengthened Consti E team emerged 5-4 victors, despite the A team started off the better, going 2-1 up in their pairs. Sam Roberts and Jason Vines had an 18-dart leg with Roberts firing in a 118 checkout to beat Paul Blow and Ash Allen, who had an 18-dart leg of their own. Nick Moyses and Blow also had an 18-dart leg for the A team but in the singles Blow fought back for the E team. With the aid of 180 he beat Jack Chilvers, who fired in his own 180. Vines then beat Allen, thanks to a 15-dart winning leg. Allen also hit another 180. Roberts put the A team 4-2 up, beating Calum Ward, who fired in a fine 174. With the A team only needing one of the next three games, they were strong favourites but wins for Mark Dixon, Dan Gent and Josh Ford sealed victory for the E team.
In the semi-final they will play Rose & Crown A, who received a bye.
Royal Mail Cart secured their place in the semi-finals with a 5-4 win over Ye Olde Abbey. Abbey went 2-1 up but wins for Jacob Herd, Stu Page, Steve Rawding and Harry Faulkner put Mail Cart through. Stan Browning had a 180 consolation in his loss against Faulkner.
Mail Cart will play Rose & Crown C in the last four after they had an easier passage through with an 8-1 win against Drayman’s Arms A.
Rose & Crown started off strongly with the first pairs winning 2-0 thanks to legs of 16 and 18 darts for Mark Horspool and Logan Goddard. Horspool also had a 180 and Duncan Hunt hit an 18-dart leg.
In Division Two’s Dick Morgan Cup it was a night of close games with three of the games going to 5-4.
Holbeach Services A beat Riverside 5-4 but had won with two games to go. Chris Chamberlain had a 130 checkout for the Services in his win over Ben Taylor. Best leg of the night was by Tracey Baldwin, who had a 16-darter in her defeat to Mike Ocock.
Ship Long Sutton beat high-flying Drayman’s B 5-4 but again the result was wrapped up early with the Ship going 5-1 up.
Player of the night was Jake Hinta Penta, who hit a maximum 180 and six scores of 100 or more.
A close encounter that went to the last leg was Green Dragon’s 5-4 win over Drayman’s C. Drayman’s went 2-1 up in the pairs but Chris Wing levelled. Connor Newton then put Drayman’s ahead with a 119 checkout in his win over Callum Templeman. Wins from Adam Rear and Mick Holstead swayed the tie in Dragon’s favour but Billy Elliot leaped forward and equalled the score.
Captain Finn Mottram then held his nerve and won 2-1 against Chris Reynolds to put Dragon through.
A slightly easier game saw Consti D beat Rose & Crown B 6-3, thanks to singles wins from Steve Emery, John Robinson, Nick Collins, and Ady Smith. Young Charlie Henderson had a 17-dart leg in his win for Rose & Crown.
In the Division Three Kelly Foster Cup there were some more comfortable wins. League leaders Pinchbeck FC beat Moulton Harrox 8-1 and Green Dragon B saw off Pied Calf 7-2, only losing one singles and one pairs game.
Mulberry’s Bar sailed to a 7-2 score line against Holbeach Services B but the other game was much closer with Josh Burton going on last and hitting a 110 checkout to beat Duane Harrison of Lincoln Arms to seal the victory for Drayman’s.
