Dynamo magic will boost Spalding United’s FA Cup hopes

Norton United will be quaking in their boots after seeing Spalding United’s result on Tuesday night.

That’s the view of Tulips supremo Pat Rayment, who is full of confidence ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup second round qualifying tie in Staffordshire (3pm).

The above mentioned 6-0 romp at Loughborough Dynamo moved Spalding four points clear of 15th-placed Norton in the Evo-Stik League First Division South table – meaning there’s likely to be little to choose between the two.

Rayment accepts that the clash, which is worth £4,500 in prize money to the winner, is essentially another league game.

But he believes that the momentum is with his in-form Tulips, who have only lost one of their last six.

Having missed out on a dream return to Corby Town, Rayment’s eyes are still on a plum draw – but he’s refusing to look past Norton.

“Tuesday’s result has to affect this game,” said the Spalding chief. “It will have sent a shiver down their spine, there’s no doubt about it.

“Momentum is a big thing in football and I feel we’ve got that going for us at the moment.

“If Tuesday’s performance doesn’t give my lads even more confidence, nothing will.

“It’s basically another league game and it’s a tie we can win. If we can get past this stage, you’d expect a big draw to be waiting for us in the next round.

“It’s a shame that we’re not going to Corby, but that’s football.

“We’ve been dominating teams as of late and hopefully that’ll be the case again on Saturday.”

  • Spalding United are travelling on bus to the FA Cup tie at Norton on Saturday.

It will be leaving the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field at 9.30am, with a few seats available at £10.
