The all-Long Sutton clash between the club’s A and B teams in Spalding and District Snooker League served up two of the best breaks of the season so far.
A sensational 81 from Sutton B’s Carl Parnell (O42) and a tidy 60 break from Sutton A’s Mat Smith (O42) lit up the Division One contest, which was won 4-2 by the A side.
Smith’s stellar showing actually proved key, as defeated Tom Horspool (O14) in the final frame to clinch the lion’s share of the spoils.
Staying in the top flight, Whittlesey A climbed up to third with a 4-2 victory over Tulips A. Bren Bowman’s (O63) 23 break was the early highlight of this clash, before it went down to an amazing black ball decider between Malcolm Bruce (R7) and Martin Anderson (O7) at the death.
The battle to sink the final black lasted 15 minutes, before Bruce took the spoils to settle the frame and the match.
Consti F’s game with Holbeach C went down to the wire too, with Warren Peel (scr) edging out Paul Ashton (R7) to earn a 4-2 success for the Spalding side.
Donington A, meanwhile, stormed to a 5-1 victory at Pyramid B as Sam Major (O14) helped himself to a 20 break.
In Division Two, Mark Gray was on mesmerising form to help keep Bourne SC A top of the pile with a 4-2 triumph at Crowland B.
The O98 handicapper made a 72 break against Russell Morse (O7), before closing out the frame with a sublime 70 clearance.
Jim Howe (O21) hit back with a 29 break for hosts Crowland, but Michael Byrne (R14) had already sealed the win for the Bourne boys in the previous frame.
Crowland A remain four points off the pace in second after a 4-2 victory of their own at Services B.
Their wins came from Albert Thomson (R21), Neil Burton (O7) and Paul Cook (O7), with Burton starring with a brilliant 31 break.
Perhaps the most one-sided game in the second tier saw Consti B whitewash hosts Services B 6-0 in a rearranged clash.
Mick Johnson (O35) closed out Consti’s six-pointer with a 22 clearance, having already pocketed a cool 24 break. That was just shy of the game’s best break, which was 35 from Services’ Tim Nash (O21).
Pyramid C are still looking strong in third place after shading a close clash with fellow high-fliers Consti B 4-2.
Tony Strickson (R14), David Walker (R7) and Malcolm Croft (scr) delivered the goods.
Meanwhile, Gosberton D made it nine wins from as many Division Three matches with a 4-2 victory at Donington D. Marcus Pell (O21), Simon Slinger (R7) and Jack Craft (R21) got them over the line this time.
Boundary C enjoyed a big 6-0 win over Whittlesey B to move into the top six as Mick Walker (O21), Josh Agger (R14) and Steve Walker (R7) all bagged black ball victories.
Consti E also claimed a welcome 4-2 win over Whittlesey B to edge away from the foot.
