The battle for top spot could not have been closer at round three of Spalding Cycling Club’s ten-mile time trial league.
Chris Ward, showing that serious training pays off, tied with the younger Josh Wallis as both clocked 22.23mins to top the 27-strong field.
Neil Palmer, taking part in his first ride since racing recommenced, showed he has not lost his form taking third spot only 21 seconds down on the leaders and keeping the aspiring youngsters at bay on a windy night.
Brynn Richards, who has recently returned to the club, clocked 23.37mins to take fourth.
Completing the top five was Adam Ellis, who still managed to ward off the challenge from Thomas Wright – this time with an increased margin of 26 seconds.
Round two had seen Wallis take top spot after getting the better of Ward, who had pipped him to second spot the week before.
Long standing member Ellis took third spot over the up-and-coming Wright by a mere one second, with Rob McAlinden (25.10) a further 39 seconds back.
Matilda Gurney is starting to show that all her training is worth while as she transferred last year’s form on the track to time trialling.
And, while doing so, she put her father Andrew in his place – coming in almost a minute ahead to take sixth spot.
