Holbeach United co-manager Drury not fussed over county trophy exit

Holbeach United’s management will not lose any sleep over the Lincolnshire FA Senior Trophy exit on Tuesday.

The Tigers went down 2-0 at Grantham Town, of the Evo-stik NPL Premier Division.
They made eight changes to the starting line-up from last Saturday’s 1-1 league draw with AFC Rushden and Diamonds. And it was a mistake from one of the three who started both which led to the Gingerbreads’ opener.

Full-back Stacy Cartwright didn’t get enough power on a header back to keeper Nick Conroy, and Correy Newman nipped in to capitalise.

Just seconds after the break it was 2-0 through Stefan Bilyk after Tigers midfielder Ollie Pinner had been robbed of possession.

Tigers co-boss Graham Drury said: “They were two poor goals for us to concede but the match was all about getting minutes into players who needed them and introducing some Reserves.”

Holbeach have had little regard for this season’s Trophy competition since the postponement of a tie in an earlier round against Boston Town ended up forcing them to play on consecutive nights the following week.

Drury said: “We’ve got a lot of games coming up and we identified this competition as one that we were not too worried about, especially after they [the Lincolnshire FA] messed us about.”

Tigers: Conroy, Parker, Cartwright (Lambe), Pinner, Miller, Brown, Brooks (Delahoy), Warfield, Palmer, King, Gibson (Chappell).

The Tigers host Cogenhoe United in the league on Saturday (Jan 31) ahead of a busy February schedule of seven matches across three competitions.
Highlight is the FA Vase fifth round tie at home to Erith and Belvedere on Saturday, February 7.
