A Spalding man who walked away from a collision caused when he dropped his milkshake has been banned from driving by magistrates in Boston.
Timothy Cairns, 35, of Riverside Park, who admitted driving with excess alcohol, was said to have walked away from the collision in Queens Road at 8.30pm on September 26 but was identified from paperwork in the car and arrested at his home after failing a breath test.
Prosecutor Andy Convoy said a test revealed a reading of 73 micrograms of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit being 35.
He said Cairns told police he had drunk three or four pints in a pub after watching the Formula 1 race on television and had been expecting his partner to collect him but drove home when she was unable to do so.
He had told police he had bought a milkshake and had the collision because he was distracted when the milkshake fell on the floor of the car.
Mitigating, David Eager said Cairns would now be losing his employment as he needed a driving licence.
Cairns was banned from driving for 19 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 19 weeks.
He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay a total of £119 in court costs and charges.
