‘Drive-thru’ bid for coffee shop

Another ‘drive-thru’ coffee shop could be on the cards for the region after Costa Coffee has put in a planning application for a Spalding site.

An application has recently been submitted for a drive-thru Costa shop at Long Sutton.

Now RPA:Group has submitted plans for a Costa Coffee drive-thru with 21 car parking spaces off the A16 in Spalding, near the roundabout housing Bush Tyres and McDonald’s.

The design and access statement describes the proposed land as “currently unused” and “within an area of industrial and commercial units of which there is Bush Tyres unit.

“A food processing factory (Dalehead) lies to the south, to the east is open agriculture land and west residential area.”

The plans propose 50 per cent of the 4898.3sqm site will be for the new drive-thru, “with the option of developing the remaining portion of the site at a later date.”

Access to the site will be “off the A151 Holbeach Road which is off the A16 Boston Road”. The design and access statement states that only new road markings, directions and cross over on to the site will be required.

In order to “soften the external appearance of the building”, new trees and other “natural vegetation” will be introduced into the site’s boundary area.

The colour scheme for the building is described in the plan as “a simple colour palette”, with beige Cotswold stone feature wall and wood-cladding elsewhere on the building.

In summary, the application said the coffee shop will enhance the area: “The design team have taken care to be sympathetic to the site and to the surrounding area and produce a scheme that sits well within the surroundings and will become a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

“Being situated within the commercial area, the proposed drive-thru coffee shop will provide a much needed food service for the surrounding area while also providing employment opportunities and will develop a site that is at present vacant.”
