Drayman’s hit back to lift first league title

Drayman’s Arms A got the win they needed to clinch their first Spalding League title. They beat Rose and Crown 6-3 but had to hit back after falling 2-1 down in the pairs.

They held their nerves and won three of the singles with Steve Urch, Logan Goddard and Kev Newton all winning.
Goddard had a 180 and a 17-dart leg in his victory. Richard Cooper beat Gary Mace to seal the win with Josh Grainger extending the lead.
Tigers C all but secured second place with a 7-2 win over Consti A. Tigers went 3-0 up in the pairs and won 4-2 in the singles. Consolation wins for Consti came from Sam Roberts, who had a 180, and Jason Vines with a 120 check-out.
Simon Hill was the player of the night with a 180 and a 17 and 18-dart legs in his win over Graham Burgess. Ant Richardson also slotted in a 16-dart leg. There were 177s by both Duncan Hunt and Ant Richardson.
Consti E beat Green Dragon 5-4. After going 2-1 down in the doubles, Consti had singles wins for Mark Dixon, Dan Gent, Jason Chilvers and Callum Ward. Tim Hester was on fine form for Dragon with a 15-dart leg and a 180. Sam Brackenbury also fired in a 180. PDC player Scott Williams bettered this 15-dart leg by hitting a 13-dart leg in his 2-0 win.
Ye Olde Abbey slipped up for the second week running in Division Two with an 8-1 loss to Lincoln A. Steve Stancer stood out in his game with seven scores of 100 or more.
Punchbowl A took advantage of the leaders’ slip to go top with a 6-3 win against Tigers B. There were singles wins for Vida, Jess Cassidy, Simon and Chris Fidler. Singles wins for Tigers came from Phil Horspool and Arthur Porter. There was a flurry of 180s with Chris Leary, Arthur Porter, Simon Fidler, Phil Horspool, and Ian McCreery all hitting a maximum. Fidler also fired in a 124 check-out and Horspool hit a 113 check-out.
There was a 5-4 victory for the Mail Cart against Consti D. Consti must have thought victory was on the cards when they won two of the doubles and the first two singles with wins by John Robinson and Riley Collins. But four wins in a row from Paul Faulkner, Steve Rawding, Josh Faulkner, and Jacob Herd secured Cart’s victory. Josh Faulkner also hit a 180 and Rawding had a 109 check-out.
It is also tight at the top of Division Three where Ship Long Sutton were without a game. Drayman’s B moved into second place, beating HUSC 5-4. Winning all three pairs was the bonus for the Drayman’s, who had singles wins from Wigs Harrison and Dan Merrill. Singles wins from HUSC came from Stu Stephens, Mike Ocock and Chris and Dan Blakey.
Punchbowl B shook up the top of the league with a win over Oscars, who have been near the top all season.
Archie Hodson beat Kieran Twitchen 2-0 on the last game to hand Punchbowl B victory. The only two singles winners for Oscars were Carl Kirk and Tracey Baldwin.
