Double away dates test ladies’ endurance

Ipswich 2s 0 Spalding Ladies 1s 2
Spalding faced two Women’s East League Division One North away games in two days but, after the exertions of winning at Ipswich crashed at St Neots.
Charlotte Maplethorpe delivered a great pass to the back post, for Hennie Boekestyn to give Spalding an early lead and two minutes into the second half player of the match Lauren Spenceley doubled the advantage with a deflection.
Despite going down to 10 players after a green card, Spalding’s defence held their ground with help from the midfield, keeping Ipswich at bay.

St Neots 5 Spalding Ladies 1s 2
On Sunday Spalding were caught cold at St Neots and conceded twice in the opening seven minutes. It was 4-0 after 20 minutes before Honor Moore and Maplethorpe halved the deficit with two goals in three minutes early in the second half.
The hosts added another to pile more pain on Spalding.

Spalding Ladies 2s 1 Cambridge South 3s 2
A fast-paced and competitive Division Three North West encounter saw both sides demonstrate determination and skill  throughout.
Despite a strong start from Spalding, Cambridge broke through first. A brilliant save by Eliza Morris looked to have kept them out but the rebound was slotted in.
Three minutes into the second half Vicky Worrall and Grace Hodgett linked up beautifully to level.
As the clock ticked down, Cambridge turned up the pressure, earning a series of short corners and eventually a deflected strike found its way into the home goal for the winner.
Camille Rogers was named player of the match.

Spalding Ladies 3s 6 Newmarket 3s 0
It was a case of Sunday best for the third team, who romped into a five-goal half-time lead in their Division Five North West match.
They showcased excellent attacking intent, quick ball movement and strong team play across the pitch.
High energy and relentless pressure on the opposition defence saw the forwards waste no time with the opening goal coming within the first few minutes.
A well-placed pass from Lucy McClements set up player of the match Khloe Brewster for the second and Lucy Wilson made it 3-0.
McClements scored her second before Jess Pilgrim slipped the ball to the league’s top scorer Isla Worrall to bring up the nap-hand.
The second half saw a more measured approach as Spalding focused on maintaining possession and managing the game. The opposition tightened their defence and only one more goal was added to the tally, a well-worked team effort that demonstrated patience and precision, with Brewster slip the ball home for her second.
