Donington parade to remember the fallen

A parade to remember the 1st Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers takes place in Donington on Sunday.

The 1st Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers were billeted in Donington for nine months before departing for The Battle of Arnhem, known as Operation Market Garden and made famous by the film A Bridge Too Far.

The parade will set off from the Market Place at 10am accompanied by a piper and flag bearers.

There will then be a moving service at the St Mary and the Holy Rood Church at 10.30am.

This memorial service includes the presentation of the colours, the names of the fallen being read and the laying of wreaths, followed by a bugler with the last post.

The service then moves outside where the men pay their respects at the memorial unveiled for the 70th anniversary beneath the Arnhem Oak tree brought back from the battlefield.

Everyone is very welcome to attend.

Afterwards refreshments will be served in the church hall.
