A teenage drunk driver who crashed through a garden wall, hitting several cars, was eventually detained by neighbours until police arrived, a court has been told.
James Scott, 19, of Gleed Avenue, Donington, Spalding admitted driving with excess alcohol and without due care and attention, when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.
Prosecuting, Jim Clare said that in the early hours of the morning of February 24, Scott crashed his Vauhall Lupa car into a garden wall in Albion Street, hitting several cars and damaging them.
He said Scott was detained by several neighbours who held him down on the ground until police arrived and he was arrested.
He said Scott had ‘very little memory’ of what had happened but did remember he had gone out for a drink and had intended to take a taxi home, but the next thing he remembered was of being in his car and people shouting at him.
Mitigating, Carrie Simpson said Scott had started out with the best of intentions by parking his car and
taking a taxi home.
She said it was ‘an isolated incident’ but Scott had lost his job as a result.
Scott was banned from driving for 17 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course,
which will reduce the period of the ban by 17 weeks.
He was also find £120 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.
