Gosberton hosted Donington in the semi final of the Billiards Shield, Nigel Brasier (r70), who is soon to be in Thailand in the World Disability Snooker Championship, played first for Donington against Des Forbes (r50).
Brasier has adapted well to billiards and there has been a big improvement in his game over the last two years. He knocked in a 21 break, going on to win 200-160.
This giving a 40-point advantage where the match is decided on aggregate points, Shane White (Gos, o40) took on Tony Scully (Don r40) and despite breaks of 25, 24 and 23 he could not quite take advantage with Scully winning 200-177, himself having a 20 break and by his own admission a little luck on his side.
Having beaten Ben Wrigglesworth (r10) twice in the league this season, Gosberton’s Marcus Pell (o40), was always going to have his work cut out, with Donington now having a 63-point advantage going in to the final game.
Wrigglesworth had a really good game and found some form with breaks of 28 and 26 running out to win 200-164. Pell had a slow start but played better as the game went on and had breaks of 47, 34 and 30.
Donington won overall 600-501.
They will go on to play Bourne Pyramid A, the current league leaders, trying to complete a league and shield double winning season.
Pyramid beat Bourne SC 569-491 to secure their place in the final.
Oli Player (r40) went on first, taking on Pyramid’s John Clapton (r100), with Player coming out on top 200-169.
It was downhill for Bourne SC after that though, with Carl Gibson (r50) going down 200-125 to John Twell (R70), and Ian Clare (r50) losing 200-166 to the league’s youngster billiards player Reegan Cooke-Holmes (r80).
