Donations making a big difference

A person is spending their last days in comfort at home thanks to a Holbeach charity and those who donate items to it.

Mandy Baxter says it’s an example of how well Boxes of Hope, the charity she set up, and its Community Miracle shop and furniture warehouse is working in South Holland.
The charity set it up so people can donate items that can either be sold in the shop or warehouse or go to the many referrals for people in need that the charity receives.
They receive several referrals a day and recently included end-of-life care charity St Barnabas asking if it had a specialist electric bed for someone in Lincolnshire who wanted to be at home rather than in its hospice.
As luck would have it, a local man had donated one following a recent death in his family.
Boxes of Hope volunteers were able to drop it off where it was needed the same day.
“It never ceases to amaze me what people donate and what they also need,” said Mandy. “The person who received it was absolutely over the moon with it.
“We told the person who donated it and they said it was brilliant.
“It’s all thanks to the generosity of others that we’re able to do this.”
As well as the Community Miracle shop and Boxes of Hope it also has a warehouse off High Road in Whaplode which offers larger furniture. It’s open from 10am to 12pm every Thursday.
“It’s really busy,” said Mandy.
“We’re currently working on a video to show people where all their donations are going and how valued they are by those who can purchase them or through the referrals for those in need we’re always getting from various organisations.”
