Donations help buy bench

Customers of a Fleet Hargate motel have helped replace a vandalised bench.

Anglia Motel owner Harold Pane saw an article on BBC Look North about Sue Dook, of Scunthorpe, who had put up a bench in memory of her 20-year-old son Matthew following complications with diabetes.

The bench was put in to mark what would have been his 30th birthday but it was recently vandalised.

Harold, who regularly collects thousands for his various projects to support veterans, held a special collection and was able to fund a new bench.

Last week he went up to Scunthorpe to see the bench and meet Sue.

Harold said: “I saw it on TV. I do a lot for charity so I thought I’d buy one for her and with my customers’ help we succeeded.”
