Dominant double rink display from Spalding Indoor Bowls Club junior side

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s junior double rink team have progressed to the next round after a dominant win over Melton.

The home rink of Ruby Hill, Chelsea Tomlin and Jordan Philpott won 25-14 in the revamped competition, while the away rink of Lauren Finbow, Rhys Hill and Ben Wilson won 34-9.

That gave a total overall score of 59-23 to Spalding, who will play Stamford in the next round.

  • Spalding IBC’s national knockout mixed team beat Sleaford in a home and away match played on Sunday.

They started the Egham Cup clash well and, despite a comeback from Sleaford, they ran out comfortable victors, winning on all rinks.

Scores: Home – M Spencer won 23-14; G R Smith won 16-14; M Orrey won 18-14; J Philpott won 28-14.

  • Spalding’s over-60’s – relegated from Division One last season – got their Lincolnshire League Division Two season under way with a big win over visitors Dunholme last week.

At the half way point in the clash Spalding were well ahead on three rinks, but the remaining two were close.

However, Spalding finished strongly – winning on four rinks and posting a score of 101-84, taking 16 of the 18 points on offer.

The best winning rink was skipped by Chris Stagles and ably assisted by John Bailey, Paul Lockie, and Pat Fillbrook.

Captains for the day were David Lunn and Graham Hicks.
