District councillor’s 256-mile ride in memory of late colleague

Coun Jim Astill

A South Holland district councillor is undertaking a mammoth motorcycle ride in memory of Whaplode and Holbeach St Johns member Michael Pullen, who died recently after a short battle with cancer.

Coun Jim Astill is doing the ‘Sunrise2Sunset’ challenge on Saturday, June 24. Organised by Bikers4Macmillan, the event sees motorcyclists ride 256 miles from Holyhead in North Wales to Skegness.

Coun Astill, who represents Crowland and Deeping St Nicholas, said: “After speaking to Mike’s widow, Ruby. I’m pleased to say that I’ll be doing this year’s ride in his memory.

“Macmillan Cancer Support provided them both with advice and support following his diagnosis. For me it’s great to be taking part in something that will raise funds for Macmillan, which will allow them to carry on the valuable work they do.”

The challenge, now in its ninth year, gets under way at sunset and participants ride through the night. Last year’s event had 97 riders and 23 pillion passengers.
