Three wins out of four in the final rounds of the DTRA UK Flat Track Intermediate championship at Greenfields Dirt Track near Alford confirmed Ollie Wilson as champion.
The South Lincolnshire-based 12-year-old had won every race in the previous five rounds of the championship and was top of the leaderboard in practice with an advantage of just half a second ahead of Oskar van Endert.
Van Endert ended that run of wins but Wilson finished second to stay in the title hunt. In race two, Wilson and van Endert battled it out with Wilson taking the honours, just 0.6 seconds ahead of his rival.
Race three was even closer, with Wilson 0.4s ahead of van Endert and the grand final saw the same result, this time with Wilson 0.287s ahead.
Wilson is the eldest son of former British Superbike and Supersport rider Ben Wilson and he said: “Ollie is now a DTRA champion and has achieved what he set out to do. We are really pleased with his progress and he shows great potential for the future. Now to prepare for his next challenge!”
Wilson will be competing in the Mablethorpe Sand Races through the winter months, continuing his training in readiness for the 2024 season.
p Kime Racing rider Tom Fisher was at Donington Park for the season finale of the No Limits Club Super Series 600 championship, needing to score more points than nearest rival Tommy Fielding to claim second spot overall.
Barry Burrell was crowned champion at Oulton Park in the penultimate round but with just 14 points separating Fisher and Fielding and 75 more available there was everything to race for.
Fisher was third in qualifying but Fielding was second so the first race was a test to see who could get the jump on the other.
Fisher overtook Fielding on lap two but they swapped back a lap later. The battle raged until lap seven when Fisher again overtook Fielding, who was then passed by James Alderson and Fisher went on to finish second.
A four-way battle in the second race saw Alderson come out on top, ahead of Fielding and Fisher.
It meant the final race of the season would determine the runners-up spot and Fisher knew all he had to do was finish within one place of Fielding.
However, he did better, following Alderson home for second place, 2.2s ahead of Fielding to grab second place in the championship for the third successive year.
