Diane’s delight at success in smokefree play areas competition

The winner of a competition which involved suggesting play areas to be signed up to South Holland District Council’s smokefree code has been presented with her prize.

Diane Voss, of Holbeach St Marks, won the Medion tablet, supplied by the Spalding branch of Hughes.
The competition, run in The Voice, invited readers to spot the council’s Big Cig mascot in its pages and also suggest three outdoor children’s spaces which the council could encourage to become smokefree. This is by adopting the council’s voluntary code, which asks people not to smoke there.

Diane suggested sites in her home village, and in Holbeach Bank and Moulton Chapel.
She was delighted to hear the news that she had won the tablet, adding: “It was a shock because I don’t ever win anything.
“I’m going to have to learn how to use one!”

The council received dozens of suggestions of places which could be approached to sign up.
Signage designed by youngsters in a separate competition in The Voice is already installed at several play areas and on the frontages of nurseries and pre-schools.

A council spokesman said: “We would like to congratulate Diane and also thank everyone who entered the competition, along with The Spalding and South Holland Voice and Hughes.
“We now aim to work with the owners of the play areas that all entrants identified to try and get them signed up to our smokefree code.
“As a council we are committed to developing healthier communities and are confident that the smokefree code will have a positive effect in areas where children are prevalent.”

Graham Boor, sales representative at Hughes in Spalding, said: “Well done to Diane and we hope she gets lots of enjoyment out of using the tablet.
“Hughes was delighted to sponsor the prize because we’re happy to be associated with a promotion of healthy communities.”
