Chuffed chief Ian Dunn felt that the scoreline didn’t flatter his Pinchbeck United side on Saturday as they crushed Wisbech Town Reserves 6-0 at Knight Street.
Ollie Maltby plundered a second-half hat-trick for Pinchbeck in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division clash, while Tom Panton fired home a 30-yard stunner and Liam Ogden helped himself to a double.
The comfortable victory is a seventh on the spin for The Knights, who are sitting pretty in sixth place in the table.
Dunn is delighted with the progress his charges are making as they approach the middle part of the season – and feels Pinchbeck are perfectly placed for a title tilt.
“We were devastating,” said the player/boss. “To be honest, we should have scored more and 6-0 didn’t flatter us at all.
“Only Ollie Maltby will know how he didn’t score a hat-trick in the first half.
“But, credit to him, he went out and scored three in the second half.
“He’s playing very, very well at the moment and looks very sharp.
“Tom Panton’s goal was absolutely incredible and it was pleasing to see Liam Ogden score from a corner routine that we’d practiced in training.
“If you look at the table, it’s looking promising for us. If we win our games in hand, we’ll be a few points off the pace.
“But the key thing for me is that we’ve played four of our six games against the teams I’d consider top four material.
“If we can be in the top four by Christmas, I’ll be very happy.”
Meanwhile, Dunn has swooped to bring goalkeeper Ricky Lovelace back to the club from Wisbech Town. Keeper Sam Vince, who had penned dual forms with Pinchbeck last week, has gone in the opposite direction.
Defender Elliot Pogson, who agreed to join Pinchbeck from Wyberton last week, has performed a U-turn and rejoined the Lincs League outfit under new boss Joe Greswell.
