Details of £1.8m work on cycling and walking facilities between Spalding and Pinchbeck announced

Details of a £1.8m scheme intending to encourage cycling and walking between Spalding and Pinchbeck have been unveiled.

Lincolnshire County Council is looking to put a cycleway and new footway in along Pinchbeck Road in Spalding and a new ‘Toucan’ crossing at its junction with West Elloe Avenue as part of phase one.

As part of phase two, the road’s junction with Park Road will be realigned.

Phase three will involve new kerbs on Spalding Road in Pinchbeck.

The county council’s designs for what it’s calling The Spalding to Pinchbeck Sustainable Travel Improvements can be seen below.

Consultation events will take place from 2pm to 8pm on Tuesday, May 20 at The Woodlands Hotel on Pinchbeck Road in Spalding and from 2pm to 8pm on Thursday May 22 at Pinchbeck Community Hub on Knight Street in Pinchbeck.

Work on Phases 1 and 2 is expected to start during Autumn 2025 and is using the £1.8m of Active Travel England’s ‘Tranche 3 Active Travel Fund’ which was awarded to Lincolnshire County Council in May 2022.

The work on kerbs in Pinchbeck is yet to be funded.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “Following on from the £1.8 million in funding we received from Active Travel England in 2022 towards improvements to sustainable travel between Spalding and Pinchbeck, we will be holding two public information events to share our proposed plans with the public.

“We want to invite residents and businesses to meet the project team and find out more about our plans. At these events, we’ll have plans and schematics on-hand to look at, along with engineers who can answer your questions about the project and how it could affect you.

“We encourage anyone wanting to find out more about the project to stop in and see us, either in Spalding or in Pinchbeck.”
