Spalding Indoor Bowls Club bowed out of the Egham Trophy after a disappointing 87-82 defeat against Stamford in the second round on Sunday.
In a match where Spalding led throughout, 22-16 at five ends, 38-31 at ten ends, 61-56 at 15 ends and 71-68 at 18 ends, Stamford finished the stronger to secure a third round fixture against Lincoln or Scunthorpe.
The rink at Spalding, skipped by Graham Smith, with Stephen Harris, Julie Hicks and Chelsea Tomlin, started exceptionally well and found themselves 14-0 up at five ends.
However, the Stamford rink settled onto the green better in the second half.
Smith and his rink still managed a rink win of 31-14 and the other rink at Spalding, skipped by Martin Spencer, also had a comfortable win – but the rinks at Stamford found it tough going.
Jordan Philpott had a narrow defeat however, while Kevin Ekins found his opposition in top form and went down 5-36.
Spalding offer their congratulations to Stamford and wish them all the best for the rest of the competition.

- Spalding’s over-60s team hosted Boston in their third game of the season.
Four weeks ago, Spalding played away at Boston and finished winning on two rinks and drawing on one rink – but lost the aggregate.
Spalding hoped for a better result at home however, struggled throughout the match and at the half way stage, were narrowly winning on one rink and 15 shots adrift on aggregate.
Spalding fought back as best they could and finished winning on two rinks but lost the aggregate by only 13 shots.
The final result was 14-4 in Boston’s favour and 99-86 on aggregate.
The top winning rink was skipped by Chris Stagles, with Ab Belding, Peter Lane and birthday boy, Roger Perkins.
Spalding’s captain thanked reserves Geoff Craft, Dave Amess and John Fitchett and welcomed the return of Ron Walpole.
Captain for the day was David Lunn, assisted by Roger Perkins.
- Spalding IBC’s Social Committee held an event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the forming of the Women’s Suffragette movement on Sunday.
The event included wartime themed singing from Leenie-Jayne, a buffet break, a Dad’s Army sketch, the recital of wartime poems, a relaxed quiz and a raffle.
