Pinchbeck United boss Ian Dunn declared himself happy after seeing his side twice come from behind to draw 2-2 with old foes Netherton United on Saturday.
The ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division fixture computer paired two of its top teams together on the opening day of the season at Knight Street – and it didn’t disappoint.
The visitors took an early lead through Ashley Jackson, only for new signing Nick Bishop to level with a header from a corner.
At that stage Dunn’s side looked like going ahead as they carved out a few top chances – but Steve Mastin latched onto a Ben Daly header to fire Netherton back in front at half time.
For a long spell that looked like being the winner, only for another debutant – Liam Ogden – to fire home a late Pinchbeck penalty to level the scores.
Dunn felt his side perhaps edged the contest, but was happy enough with a share of the spoils.
He said: “A draw with Netherton is never a bad result. They are always very strong opposition.
“I thought we had the better of the first half and we probably should have been 3-1 up at half time.
“So to get hit with a sucker punch and go in behind was hard to take.
“We didn’t quite find that final ball in the second period, but I still felt we were the better side.
“I didn’t think the goal was coming, but that late penalty was welcome and I think we more than deserved our draw.”
Pinchbeck squad: Abell, Bishop, Brooks, Gardner, Lawe, Martin, A Murrell, Ogden, Oldham, Ross, Vince. Subs: Dickinson, Moore, B Murrell.
