DESBOROUGH TN 3
HOLBEACH UTD 1
Downbeat Holbeach United boss Seb Hayes reckons that rivals have “sussed his side out” after they crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Desborough Town on Saturday.
Hayes, who has never won at Waterworks Field as a first team boss, felt his Tigers deserved a draw in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division clash but blamed wasted chances on his fourth successive defeat there.
Jason Turner headed home Will Arnold’s cross to open the scoring for the hosts, before the frontman doubled their advantage from the penalty spot.
The Tigers’ top scorer Lewis Leckie did reduce the arrears, but a cracker from Arnold secured the points for Ar Tarn.
The defeat sees Holbeach drift further off the pace at the top of the UCL Premier Division – and boss Hayes wasn’t impressed with what he saw from his side.
“We probably deserved a draw,” said the Tigers chief. “But it was the same old story – we created loads of chances and missed them.
“At the start of the season, we were relying heavily on certain players scoring.
“Now that they’re not, we’re really struggling.
“To be honest, I think that we’ve been sussed out by the rest of the league.
“Teams know that if they match our workrate, they’ll get a result against us.
“Saturday was another off day for us. We lost 1-0 against an in-form Cogenhoe side last week and pushed hard for a result. That’s the way to lose a game.
“On Saturday, we did well to get back into the game after falling behind and really pushed them before half time.
“The break came at the wrong time, though, as we gave a way a stupid penalty.
“Leckie got a goal back, but they scored a ‘worldy’ soon after and that was that.
“From then on the lads looked disjointed and you could see there was no way back for us.
“It was very disappointing to see and I think I’ve got to have a look at my options for the next game.
“Obviously the title has gone now too – that much is obvious.”
