Crucial work supporting parents

The work of a family support charity with volunteering opportunities is being promoted.

Home-Start South Holland offers help to local families and is funded primarily by the Big Lottery.

The charity offers a home-visiting befriending scheme to support parents through the trials and tribulations of family life.

Volunteers offer both practical and emotional help as agreed with the family on a weekly basis for as long as needed.

The “parents supporting parents” project simply offers a listening ear, shoulder to lean or cry on, an extra pair of hands, a voice and new experiences. Through this, the charity aims to empower families to solve challenges, increase confidence and esteem and enjoy family life.

The main aim of the charity’s stall at Spalding Pumpkin Festival was to raise awareness of the organisation to both potential volunteers and service users through children’s activities.

The charity relies upon volunteers to provide support direct support to families, and the organisation also has trustees who oversee the running of it.

Anyone interested in getting involved as a home-visiting volunteer, a trustee or a supporter should contact senior co-ordinator Mary Hutson on 01406 701720 or [email protected].

The next preparation course for home-visiting volunteers starts on Wednesday, November 5, at Weston Village Hall.
