Crowland pensioner (81) pleads not guilty to sexual offences

An 81-year-old Crowland man will go on trial at Lincoln Crown Court after he denied four sex offence charges.

Michael Copland, of Millfield Gardens, faces charges of indecent assault, sexual assault and assault by penetration on two female complainants.

Mr Copland today (Wednesday) pleaded not guilty to four charges when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

They are:

– Assault of a teenage girl by penetration between September 4, 2023, and September 9, 2023.

– Two charges of sexual assault of a woman aged over 16 between January 1, 2020, and September 1, 2023

– Indecent assault of a woman aged over 16 between December 1987 and December 1989.

Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight adjourned the case for a trial beginning at Lincoln Crown Court on March 30 next year.

The trial is expected to last four days. 

Mr Copland was released on conditional bail until his next court appearance.

A pre-trial hearing will be heard on March 20, 2025.
