Crowland A close the gap on billiards league leaders Long Sutton in style

Crowland A took full advantage of Long Sutton’s week off in Spalding and District Billiards League as they closed to within one point of the table-toppers.

Second-placed Crowland roared to a maximum 7-0 triumph over Holbeach B on Monday night to apply pressure on the defending champions.

Roger Goodliffe (R110), Neil Burton (R80) and Richard Wesley (R70) all earned from wins for the title hopefuls, who have now picked up nine wins from 14 matches.

Third-placed Pyramid B are three points further back following a 5-2 victory at Consti A.

The hosts won the opening frame thanks to Robert Adams (R40), but Martin O’Connor (R10) and Darrell Read (R50) hit back for the Bourne boys.

Despite losing the opening frame, Maurice Phillipson (R80) made a cool 23 break for Pyramid.

Fellow club side Pyramid A were also on winning form against Spalding opposition as they picked up a fine 7-0 triumph over Consti B.

John Clapton (R90), David Taylor-Martin (R60) and John Twell (R50) brought home the points for the Bourne side.

Mick Johnson (O170) did make breaks of 32, 31 and 26 for Consti, while team-mate John Keeton (R30) added a 26 of his own.
Twell also notched a 26 break for Pyramid.

Elsewhere, Donington defeated hosts Gosberton A 5-2. Ben Wrigglesworth (R80) and Matt Turner (R80) – who made a 21 break – were the away winners.
