Criminal Spalding trader drops another premises licence appeal

A Spalding trader has again dropped an appeal against the revocation of a premises licence at the last minute.

Karwan Ahmad waited until just hours before the scheduled hearing at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (August 17) before stopping his action in respect of Winsover off-licence.
It meant from 10am on Wednesday, the revocation came into effect and alcohol could not be sold from the Winsover Road premises.

Officers from Lincolnshire Police’s alcohol licensing team were in South Holland and were due to be visiting the store to ensure that the revocation was being adhered to.

Ahmad’s premises licences for Winsover and nearby Baltic were revoked by South Holland District Council in February after they were both found to be selling smuggled cigarettes.
Subsequent raids on both stores have uncovered thousands more illegal and counterfeit cigarettes on sale.

Ahmad appealed both revocations, enabling him to carry on selling alcohol until the hearing came to court. He dropped the Baltic appeal on August 3 – the day before the hearing.
Ahmad will be liable for South Holland District Council’s costs in respect of both appeals.

As previously reported, The Voice understands that Winsover will be closing shortly ahead of demolition as part of expansion plans for the neighbouring Aldi store.
